Tobego

After Suriname we set course to Tobego! Welcome to the Carib! Join us? Between January 14 and February 1, 2022 we will be there.

Tobego belongs to Trinidad and vice versa. Although the two islands belong to the same nation ‘T&T’, you wonder if they were born from the same tribe. Both have spectacular rainforests, waterfalls, savannahs, coral reefs and beaches that are among the most beautiful in the region, but also a character and history that are miles apart.

We will therefore mainly focus on Tobego, but below a small explanation about both islands.

Trinidad is the largest of the two, a cosmopolitan oasis of Creole culture and the birthplace of the limbo dance and the steal drum, the only acoustic instrument invented in the 20th century. The island is a place bustling with trade and commerce, with large reserves of gas and oil making it one of the richest in the Caribbean. In Port of Spain, the world’s only capital named after a country, bazaars crowd under modern skyscrapers and mosques share the skyline with cathedrals. Here, tourism is not the mainstay of the economy: tourists are visitors.

On the other hand, you have the soothing island of the two; Tobago. It is rich in natural wonders and lacks the sophisticated urban personality of its big oil-rich brother. You can spend your vacations here on immaculate white sandy beaches. Tobago is home to the oldest protected rainforest in the western hemisphere and is even considered the inspiration for Daniel Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe. From the end of February, the two islands will fraternize for The Greatest Show in Earth, the spectacular carnival that’s a must-see during your vacation in Trinidad and Tobago. The celebration of history, culture, fashion and art melts together in a day-long feast of sensational music, sweet sounds of the steal drum and colorful costumes.

This is a sailing trip where we spend as little time as possible in marinas, which are quite expensive and crowded in high season. We prefer to anchor in the numerous bays, free of charge AND much more fun! Of course we can take the dinghy to shore at any time.
