St. Martin

After 4 years of rebuilding St Maarten is back on track! Of course we want to see this with our own eyes, are you travelling with us? From 1 February to 10 March 2022 is your chance.

You will enjoy a vacation on St. Maarten on the smallest island in the world that is in the hands of two countries. The northern part has been in the hands of France since 1648, and is known as Saint-Martin. The slightly smaller southern part has been part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands since that time. In the 17th century, the French and the Dutch both wanted to claim the Caribbean island of only 87 square meters. According to a local legend, the border was determined after a walking race between a Dutchman and a Frenchman.

So you’re actually celebrating vacations in two ‘countries’, because both Sint Maarten and Saint Martin have their own culture and identity. Sint Maarten is busier and livelier, with more resorts, casinos, bars and clubs. Saint-Martin is more sleepy, with hiking trails through wild nature, Mediterranean looking fishing villages and deserted places to explore. However, there is no formal boundary and both north and south offer the assets of a tropical paradise in the Caribbean. You can enjoy the sun and sea on 37 beaches and you can snorkel, dive and sail. Shopaholics also get their money’s worth, as Sint Maarten is the only Caribbean island where you can shop tax-free.42t. Martin is an island with a dual nationality, but with a multitude of cultural influences and different languages. In the restaurants alone you will find European, Creole, North American, Latin and even African flavors. Luckily you can go anywhere with your English during your vacation. The only doom is Hurricane Irma, which destroyed most of St. Maarten in September 2017. Since then, reconstruction efforts have been underway. In December 2017 the first cruise ships moored and in 2018 many hotels reopened. Sint Maarten is again a sun-drenched place to leave your stressful life behind.
