Sardinia

Discover the best places in the Maddalena Archipelago; Sardinia! (10 august to 30 august 2021)

Especially the west coast of Sardinia is fantastic to admire from the water. Countless beautiful bays, crystal clear blue water for snorkeling and delicious food in the Sardinian cuisine! Because of the love for food, the Sardinian cuisine is now world famous. Along the coast you will find many excellent restaurants, some even with one or more prestigious Michelin stars. Just like any other coastal town, there is of course a lot of use of the delicacies of the sea, such as crawfish and tuna. Furthermore, the dishes with wild boar or suckling pig are well known, as well as the cheeses and the unmistakable saffron pasta of the region.

Sardinia and its hotspots

Even though Sardinia is a relatively small island, there is plenty to do. Discover colorful Bosa! Colored houses and fantastic restaurants characterize this lovely city. The city is built against a hill on the west coast of the island. The Temo River flows through the city, after which it flows into the sea at the nearby Bosa Marina.

There are plenty of cultural hotspots to be seen as well. For example on the Sinis peninsula, which is also located on the west coast of Sardinia. This area is a large nature reserve with varied landscapes with rocks, green meadows and blue lagoons. Among these beautiful surroundings are the ruins of Tharros (an excavated ancient port city). Another special archaeological excavation is the giant statues of Mont’e Prama. In 1974, a farmer encountered a stone with his plow. When he wanted to remove it he saw the head of a giant statue emerge. It would take more than 30 years before the thousands of pieces in which the statues had been smashed could be put back together like a puzzle. Some of these statues can be seen today in the museum of Cabras.

Nice snorkeling and diving? More than enough to do in the crystal clear sea around Sardinia. If the weather conditions are right, we may even end up on Isle de San Pietre. A volcanic island, with turquoise clear water. A feast for the eyes, especially under water! The island itself offers plenty of culinary and historical attractions.

And of course we visit one of the most beautiful beaches there is. The small coastal town of Porto Pino is popular for its beach and dunes. The gently sloping white fine sand beach is highly appreciated by families with children and a paradise for snorkeling and diving.
